My Medicine List Your Hospital Pharmacist Medication Tips and Tools

About Our Database features easy-to-read information on more than 12,000 drug products that are approved by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA). It provides user-friendly information about both prescription and over-the-counter (OTC, non-prescription) medications in about 1000 monographs. This information is based on the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists' drug information resources that are developed independently by pharmacists and other medication experts. Their mission is to provide a foundation for safe and effective drug therapy based on scientific evidence. The information is prepared according to guidelines established for useful written consumer information by the FDA and an expert committee established by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This means that the information you find here is free from the influence of manufacturers, insurers, and other special interests.

Medication descriptions include information taken from a variety of references, including:

  • FDA-approved prescribing information,
  • Patient package inserts,
  • The Society's own publication: American Hospital Formulary Service: Drug Information,
  • FDA MedWatch alerts and other timely information about medication safety concerns.

Although descriptions are updated monthly, minor package labeling changes that have happened since the description was written may not be included.
